Geoff Weller is a Senior Partner in FTE Performance Consulting’s USA office and a managing director of FTE’s Global Consulting Network. In this role, he is a subject mater expert providing technical guidance and executive support to the FTE Project Leaders and Teams. In addition, he guides FTE’s business operations and development opportunities. Since retiring from General Motors in 2008 after a 32 year career in manufacturing, he has played a major role in developing a complete transformation program for a major global motorcycle company, consulted for Tier 1 automotive suppliers, home building industry and orthopedic implant industry.
Launched the $1.5B Lansing Delta Assembly Plant, GM’s newest American Assembly plant, initially as the Launch Manager which transitioned into the Assistant Plant Manager. He was the second person on the project and was responsible for developing the overall timing plans that included facility construction, tooling installation, prototype vehicle builds, staffing and training of the production leadership and team members, policies and procedures. The product won the North American 2008 Crossover of the Year Award.
Significant focus was placed on implementing lean principles, and the operation became the model and “Go To” site for the balance of the North American Operations. Previous assignments included Plant Manager and Program Manager at General Motors Joint Venture contract manufacturing facility building specialty vehicles and low volume vehicle derivatives.
Other significant assignments; General Motors Process Guardian for GM’s Lean Conversion, reporting to the Vice President of North American Operations. In that capacity he developed and implemented the strategies to continue the journey towards Lean Manufacturing. Director of North American Vehicle Quality, responsible for manufacturing quality of 25+ vehicle assembly plants.
Geoff holds a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and an MBA with a focus on Materials Logistics from Michigan State University. In 2008, Geoff was awarded the GM President’s Council Award for Outstanding Launch of the Buick Enclave.
