Don Wine

Don Wine is an FTE Senior Advisor whose career spans over 40 years across manufacturing, engineering, operations and program management in the automotive industry. With extensive training and real world experience in the deployment of lean principals, Mr. Wine has had substantial involvement in several lean transformations in direct and consulting roles, encompassing both OEM and tiered supplier settings. 

Notable Experience and Accomplishments:

  • Skillfully handled labor relations during a challenging transition period, setting up new equipment, implementing flexible work teams, and creating efficient processes and procedures while significantly improving work quality.
  • Leveraged collaborative leadership style to align individual department leader goals and priorities with overall plant objectives.
  • Cut total operating budget by more than $100M within 4 years with a business plan featuring innovative techniques that adjusted union labor requirements.
  • Saved more than $400K annually by improving on-time shipping to 99.9%.
  • Slashed defective parts per 1M ratio by nearly 30% and improved press systems by 25% with superior quality control techniques.
  • Spearheaded environmental program that achieved 0% landfill waste and crucially decreased electricity and water costs.

Prior to consulting, Mr. Wine worked at General Motors for 40 years and held several manufacturing positions, including Shop Floor Supervisor, Superintendent, Assistant Plant Manager, and Plant Manager. As a senior manufacturing executive for over 30 years, he led three Assembly Centers and two Stamping Plants, with experience in all areas of plant operations, including assembly and stamping production. Mr. Wine also worked at Android Industries for 10 years, serving as a Plant Manager of their largest facility and Director of Operations for 4 additional plants within Android’s system during that time. His primary focus centered around Tier 1 production of cockpits, tire and wheel assembly, console assembly, and other major components.

Don holds a Master of Science Administration degree from Central Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University. He also holds several certificates for leadership, quality, and organizational development.
